Back at the Cape West Apartments, Kyle finds a mysterious letter instructing him to find an object called the Scarlet Star. On December 18th, 1980, Kyle Hyde learns from his boss, Ed Vincent, that he gets fired from Red Crown. Unlike the first game, Last Window is set across several days instead of one night. The game's story takes place one year after that of its predecessor. When a chapter comes to a close, Kyle attempts to piece information together in his mind (even if it seems insignificant in the grand scheme of things) and the player has to memorize the information presented to them, including the events that occurred to pick the correct answer, so it's advised that the player pays attention during a playthrough. Additionally, Kyle will ask certain types of questions when having a conversation with others, which range from innocent to personal and the icons for these questions has a distinct color specifically white, yellow and red. Figuring out who is trustworthy and reliable is important in order to uncover the full truth. In order to progress, the player must use their critical thinking skills and be incredibly cautious about jumping to hasty conclusions the hotel guests can spread misinformation about other residents. If a character flashes red briefly due to Kyle offending them somehow, it is a sign that the player may be heading in the direction of a game over. Players will need to collect useful items, but they need to be careful as doing suspicious activity can get Kyle kicked out.ĭuring confrontation scenes, the player needs to select the right dialogue options in order to get through the section. As chapters progress, the player will be able to explore more of the hotel. The environments in the game are in full 3D and the player navigates the Cape West Apartments building in a first person perspective. Like its predecessor, the Nintendo DS is held by its side, as if it were a book, and the two screens show characters looking at each other. Last Window is a hybrid of a visual novel game and a mystery/adventure puzzle-solving game.
